Retail Mission

USDEC organized a cheese mission in which seven U.S. cheese suppliers visited four core markets in the region, namely: UAE, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Kuwait. Prominent retail stores were visited to check retail operations and activities as well as to understand retail trends in the GCC. Retailers, as well as importers, were invited to meet one-on-one with U.S. suppliers. This served to familiarize U.S. suppliers with the region’s retail sector specifically as it relates to the cheese varieties available in the market, various origins, packaging sizes, as well as brands etc. The one-on-one meetings allowed more private discussions between locals and U.S. suppliers aiming to foster sales of U.S. cheeses.


The aim was to expose U.S. cheese suppliers to the various market dynamics influencing cheese purchases and imports in the GCC, specifically the retail segment, although some of the targets serviced foodservice and processing segments. One-on-one consultations brought together local companies and U.S. suppliers to encourage initiating imports of U.S. cheese and to penetrate the retail sector. Such meetings maximize their range of imported cheese to the region and encourage importing new varieties or brands of U.S. cheese.
